CO Jeep Trips Series: Palisade

It’s no secret that we love our state. Colorado is second to none when it comes to adventure — from deserts to plains to our Rocky Mountains, we’re a Jeep lover’s dream!

Our Altitude Jeep logo includes both a mountain and the C from the Colorado state flag. We love it here and we love taking our Jeeps, with all their custom Jeep parts, out to explore cities and trails. Which is why we’re doing a series on Colorado Jeep Trips. Learn more and then prepare for your trip by shopping our custom Jeep parts.

For our first feature, we’ll be taking you to Palisade, home of peaches, wine, and trails! Read on to learn about some of the highlights of the town.

Palisade Peaches

Palisade is home to some of the best peaches in the world and they are an iconic part of Colorado’s agriculture industry.

More so, these peaches are Palisade’s most prized crop — and they’re celebrated each with an annual peach festival! If you’re visiting Colorado in mid-August, drive your Jeep and all its badass custom Jeep parts, over to Palisade for the festival.

This year they’ll be celebrating the 126th year of Palisade Peaches. There’s music, a peachy run/walk, peach recipes, and as my peaches as you can eat. There’s even a biggest peach contest where a peach can earn a ribbon and crown. Last year’s winner weighed 1 lb, 15 oz and Altitude Jeep is betting that this wet spring will yield an even bigger peach!

Wine Tours and Wine Byway

Wine country isn’t only in the state of California! Colorado may not be especially known in the wine world, but we think our wineries are one of our best kept secrets! The most popular red varieties made in CO are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Cabernet Franc. The most popular whites are Chardonnay, Riesling, and Viognier.

Palisade is the heart of Colorado wine, though wineries are sprouting up along the front range and throughout the state. If you’re into cruising roads in a Jeep Wrangler, than the wine byway is for you! People come from all over the state — and the world — to bicycle or drive this unique road. The foothills rise up behind the vineyards and it’s a great place to show off your custom Jeep parts and wave at other Jeepers.

There are 25 wineries, tasting rooms, farms, and local stops along the route. You could spend an entire vacation exploring the world class vineyards along the byway, and we highly suggest doing so!

Grand Mesa National Forest

We’re always looking for a great place to dispersed camp or head out on the trails. And Grand Mesa National Forest is one of the best parks we’ve visited this year. It has it all: camping, hiking, fishing, biking, history, and cruising.

For scenic Jeep cruising, you can’t beat the 63 miles of the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway. The road takes you up 6,000 feet where you can look out on what feels like endless forests and more than 300 lakes. If you choose to drive the entire road, you’ll travel through four ecological zones, moving from sandstone canyon to evergreen forests.

Grand Mesa truly lives up to its name — in fact, it is the largest flattop mountain in the world!

Wild Horse Range

If you, or the people you’re traveling with on your Jeep road trip, are horse lovers, then you have to stop by Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range. You can easily spot horses in spring and fall when the weather is mild and the horses are out exploring the area.

There are only three areas in the entire western United States that still have wild horse herds and one of them is in Palisade Colorado. 80-120 mustangs roam the 30,000 acres of rugged canyons and plateaus.

You can take your Jeep outfitted with its custom Jeep parts into parts of the interior. You can also take out your mountain bike, ride horses, or hike, though the trails are very difficult and primitive.

If you get a chance to go, we recommend the Rapid Creek Trail and Horsemountain Trail east and southeast of Palisade. You can also take your Jeep out on Coal Canyon Road. Keep your eyes peeled for wild horses that like to roam along the southern edge of the range!

Altitude Jeep

Altitude Jeep is based in Littleton and we’re lucky to be only four hours from beautiful Palisade Colorado! We may live in the Denver — which allows us to ship our custom Jeep parts around the world — but we head out to the mountains and trails around our state as often as we can.

Whether you’re a rock crawling off-road junkie, an overlander, or a Wrangler Jeep rider who likes to cruise the open road, Altitude Jeep has something for you! Browse our collections today!
